1-15 February
sampling on R/V Marion Dufresne
Main instruments used during the cruise
The rosette is a set of 24 vertically mounted bottles whose closure is controlled automatically from the surface. Each bottle contains 12 litres of water taken from different depths. A large number of sensors are also mounted on the structure. They provide real-time measurements of pressure, temperature, salinity, fluorescence, turbidity, etc.
The single-tube corer is used to sample the surface sediment.
GoFlo bottles are used to take clean samples for the analysis of trace metals such as iron. They are carefully stored in a clean room laboratory container and then deployed on a textile cable to avoid contamination.
