MARGO : a journey from glaciers to the ocean

On the Kerguelen island, the ice cap is melting very rapidely. During the past 40 years its surface has decresed by 20% and its disparition is planned for the end of the century

At sea, the abundance of microalgaes stimulated by continuous iron supply sustains an ecosystem where thrive iconic species of birds and marine mammals.

But what are the main sources of iron ? are glacial erosion and melting an important process that supply iron to the marine environment ?

MARGO is a research project that will tackle these issue.

Visit MARGO's web site to learn more on the multiple facets of the project .....

....and enjoy the amazing Kerguelen's environment.
