MARGO : Material of glacial origin and its fate in the ocean

In situ measurements and strategy

The in situ study of the fjord was carried out using CEFREM equipment specialising in the study of coastal environments.

A winch was specially installed on the curieuse to deploy the instruments. A cage contained the various sensors measuring salinity, temperature, fluorescence and turbidity. Particle size spectra and images were also recorded by two laser sensors. A Niskin bottle was used to sample the water. Very good weather for the region made operations much easier.

The data was acquired in real time and an preliminary analysis was carried out in the La Curieuse  to optimise the campaign strategy.
