MARGO : Material of glacial origin and its fate in the ocean

Kick-off meeting

The kick-off meeting of MARGO took place at the Marine station in Banyuls sur mer

The first day was organised at the Mediteranéan garden.

 

It was dedicated to scientific presentations by the different partners

Overview of the context, objectives and strategy (S. Blain)

Observation and modelling of past glacier extents on the Kerguelen Islands (D. Verfaillie et al.)

Matter dynamics along the land-ocean continuum at high latitudes (F. Bourrin et al.)

Sources of nutrients via glaciers to the Kerguelen’s bloom: Isotopic (Si) and mineralogical (Si, Fe) approaches (D. Cardinal et S. Caquineau)

Bioavailability of glacial Fe to marine microorganisms (I. Obernosterer et R. Thoppil)

The second day was dedicated :

the preparation of the field expeeditions during the next austral summer 2023-2024.

To the outreach activities

S. Bodin et V. Arnaud presented the exhibition l'Art Cherche that will host  MARGO in 2025

A. Guéneuguès presented medation activities with schools located in britanny .

V. Favier presented the proposal for a documentary dedicated to  MARGO's expeditions at Kerguelen.

Finally in the evening we visited the winyards of the clos San Sebastian
