MARGO : Material of glacial origin and its fate in the ocean

November 2024

on the way to Kerguelen

After much uncertainty due to the presence of avian influenza on Kerguelen, the MARGO project finally returned to the archipelago with a group reduced to 3 people. The objectives are to finalize sampling in the glacial environments, to recover the data acquired during the year by the weather stations and the limnigraph, and finally to survey the moorings deployed last year in Irish Bay and the Gulf of Whales. Preparations for all these operations begin as soon as the first days at sea on the Marion, in liaison with the IPEV logistics team.

This transit to Kerguelen is also an opportunity to brush up on first-aid techniques... so as to keep in mind that the best thing is to avoid having to use them at all costs.
